Queen Elizabeth II wears stunning diamond brooch with sweet history for Christmas 2020
Queen Elizabeth II has one of the most impressive brooch collections in the world. For today’s speech, the monarch opted for a stunning diamond brooch which has a huge history linked to it.
Most notably, she wore it during her 100th birthday celebrations.
From the huge jewel collection that the Queen inherited from her mother, this one has been worn by the monarch regularly.
She can be seen wearing it on important outings including the unveiling of the Queen’s Mother’s statue, Zara Phillips’ wedding and the 60th anniversary of King George VI’s death.
The stunning piece stood out on the Queen’s bright purple round-neck gown today.
She also opted for her iconic three-strand pearl necklace.
According to Leslie Field, author of The Queen’s Jewels, the first necklace was a gift from her grandfather, George V, for his silver jubilee in 1935.
The Queen supposedly loved the precious necklace so much she had another made for her, perhaps to wear alongside the original so that it doesn’t wear out too quickly.
The second was gifted by the Emir of Qatar in 1953.
She is rarely seen now without her pearl necklace and earrings on.
This year’s Christmas speech will be watched by millions – as it is every year.
However this year is slightly different and with the ongoing pandemic, many may look forward to what the Queen has to say more than ever.
The Queen’s Christmas Message is broadcasting today at 3pm on BBC One.
For her speech last year, the monarch wore another brooch with huge significance.
It’s one of her most treasured jewels which dates back to the 1800s.
The Prince Albert brooch was originally a present from Albert to Queen Victoria.
The stunning piece of jewellery is often paired with blue toned outfits.
