Kamala Harris Defends Jill Biden Over WSJ Op-Ed on GMA
Kamala Harris is coming to Jill Biden’s defense. After the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed by columnist Joseph Epstein debating the validity of the educator’s title on Dec. 11, the vice president-elect expressed her disappointment during a Dec. 16 appearance on Good Morning America.
“I was deeply disappointed that in 2020, that kind of approach would be given any legitimacy,” she told Robin Roberts. “Let’s be clear about it: she worked hard. She raised her kids, she went to school, she went to night school, she got degrees, she earned everything she has . . . So, when there’s anyone who tries to diminish the significance of people who work hard, I think it’s just not the American way, frankly.”
“She raised her kids, she went to school, she went to night school, she got degrees, she earned everything she has.”
Jill has a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Pennsylvania’s Brandywine Junior College, as well as a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware. Shortly after the article was published, Jill appeared to respond when she tweeted, “Together, we will build a world where the accomplishments of our daughters will be celebrated, rather than diminished.”
Former first lady Michelle Obama also came to her defense on Instagram. “For eight years, I saw Dr. Jill Biden do what a lot of professional women do — successfully manage more than one responsibility at a time, from her teaching duties to her official obligations in the White House to her roles as a mother, wife, and friend,” Michelle wrote. “[She is] a brilliant woman who has distinguished herself in her profession and with the life she lives every day, always seeking to lift others up, rather than tearing them down.” See what else Kamala had to say in the video above.
